Congratulations Colonel President Mike Cartney

"In an honor reserved for only a few of South Dakota’s finest, one Watertown man will step to the front of the line on Saturday and receive his medallion honoring his achievements in the field of education as he enters the elite group of inductees in the South Dakota Hall of Fame.

There are only a few that can say they have accomplished as much in their lifetime as Lake Area Tech President Mike Cartney. Each year, up to 10 outstanding South Dakota are inducted into the Hall of Fame for their achievements that inspire youth, lead the generations and build the future.

Cartney says its humbling for him to be inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame…. Cartney retired as a decorated United States Air Force Colonel in 2007. By that time, he had been decorated for his service in six wars. After retiring, he returned home to South Dakota and helped transform the state's technical college system into what it is today.

Under his continued leadership, Lake area Technical College consistently garners top in the nation honors for student graduation, retention and in-placement rates making it one of the most respected technical colleges in the country. "
